Her Father's Flag
This project has proven to be quite fun and interesting so far! A few weeks back I finally got to meet the previous owner, Ms. Jean. During our conversation Ms. Jean mentioned that one of her great disappointments with this house was that after she moved away, unknown people went through the house and stole various items, with the most painful item stolen being the interment flag from her father's casket. He was an Air Force veteran.
I didn't tell her at the time, but it wasn't stolen! We found it wadded up in a pile of clothes and trash and saved it, not knowing whose it was but knowing it was an interment flag due to its 5' by 9.5' dimensions.
I took the flag to Ed Robinson Dry Cleaning in Columbia and had it dry cleaned, which they generously did free of charge!
Then last Friday, Karen took the flag down to the Charleston AFB Honor Guard office where it was refolded by two great Air Force guys.
Grace picked up an oak presentation box on her way up from Charleston on Saturday, and the three of us ran by Ms. Jeans's place and surprised her with it!
This sure is one special house that is continuing to create special memories as it ages! 81 years and counting...
